April 20, 2017 a group of residents and staff members from Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center took off on a journey just north of Pine Mountain, GA to encounter one of the most unique experiences of a lifetime. Animals! Exotic animals! LOTS of exotic animals! The Serengeti Adventure is a 3-mile drive through section where you will have a chance not only to see, but also to feed and touch animals from around the world. The drive will bring you face to face with animals such as giraffes, zebras, buffalo, camels, a rhino and many more. After all that excitement time to wind down. Residents and staff members returned to their cabin for a cook-out and relaxation.
Next stop Callaway Gardens. Callaway Gardens is nestled in the southernmost foothills of the Appalachian Mountains where man and nature can abide together for the good of both. Callaway Gardens has been open since 1952 and for more than six decades later, their retreat continues to offer solace, inspiration and discovery for all who come here. Speaking of discovery that brings us to our last stop before making our way back home. Butterfly Sanctuary to become a butterfly expert. Residents and staff learned all about these incredible creatures that hold captive our hearts as much as our eyes.
I would say the adventure was very successful, and we all can’t wait to return. Until then we have some pictures and memories to cherish!
When you participate in a Relay For Life event, you become a vital part of the American Cancer Society: a volunteer. You are now part of an organization of 3.5 million survivors, patients, advocates, volunteers, caregivers, and researchers doing everything within our power to save lives. By selflessly devoting your time and energy through raising awareness and money, you become the voice of the American Cancer Society in your community. It’s a big job. And its not one that we take for granted. Chautauqua Street Rats fulfilled our personal goal to save lives and celebrate life. Every day.
“Friends of Freeport” came out on Good Friday to give all residents at Chautauqua Rehab and Nursing Center beautiful pink flowers donated by the Mayor of Freeport Russ Barley. Eanna Rodriguez Lombardo age 11, Elissa Rodriguez Lombardo age 13, and Elian Rodriguez Lombardo 16 are the founders of the “Friends of Freeport” volunteer group. These wonderful young ladies that came to be with us and are volunteering in group are Madison Kysel, Michelle Li, Kegan Ison, Chloe Ison, and Danica Brandt. We all enjoyed the girl’s handing out Easter Blessing to all the residents in our facility.
Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center enjoyed an Easter Egg hunt with Chautauqua Child Care on Good Friday. The smiles on both children and residents brought so much happiness to our hearts.
On April 13, 2017 Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center celebrated the annual companywide “Spring Break Day” event. The goal of the event is to get residents out of buildings, active and having fun. Residents enjoyed perfect weather, hot dogs, hamburgers, and live entertainment by Little Jimmy Reed. All the smiling faces, of both residents, staff members, and family proved the day to be a success!
Chautauqua Rehabilitation and Nursing Center residents enjoyed and displayed their art for the Downtown Arts Night held on Friday, April 7, 2017. Downtown Arts Night is a collective effort to show case regional local artists and handcrafters. This event had over 50 artists, artisans, craftsmen, and food vendors lined the streets of Historic Downtown DeFuniak Springs from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. To provide the community with an evening of Art, Food, Music, & Fun.your longer narrative description.
